When Julie Thayer Vehr went to the National Gallery of Art in spring of last year to see the exhibition "Degas/Cassatt," the Middleburg, Va., resident wasn't just interested in the impressionists show. A great-grandniece of Mary Cassatt, Vehr was scouting the museum as a future home for "Grandpa," her affectionate name for the Cassatt portrait of her grandfather that had been handed down to her.
